A Day Of Miracles

It's time to open our eyes to the many miracles that surround us

There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. — Albert Einstein

I’ve had days when everything just seems to work out in my favor. I call them days when “the stars are aligned”. Does this mean the stars are not aligned on all the other days of the year? That sounds scary.

You know what a miracle is right? Moses parting the Red Sea. A woman being cured from a terminal illness. Those are certainly miracles, and most of us probably haven’t seen anything like that — but we tend to take for granted the myriad of miracles happening around us on a daily basis.

I wake up every day to a sun that has risen and I can count on this every day without fail. I find the components of my body work together, enabling me to breathe, run, dream and eat. I walk out my door and see mighty trees that grew from small seeds. When I’m driving to work, the cars on the road going in the opposite direction don’t cross the line and hit my car. At the end of the day , I can count on the sun setting— no delays, no malfunctions, no excuses, ever.

According to A Course in Miracles, a 1976 book by Helen Schucman, a miracle is an everyday occurrence. The underlying premise of this bestselling book is that the greatest “miracle” is the act of simply gaining a full “awareness of love’s presence” in one’s own life.

The existence of technology’s very existence is often overlooked. From different forms of communication to life changing medical advancements, technology is changing lives for the better every day.

The inability to see everyday miracles in our lives often causes depression, anxiety and hopelessness. Focusing on the miracles in our lives gives us a better outlook and makes us happier. Seemingly small acts of kindness like a cookie delivered to your door, a nice note in the mailbox or a smile from a stranger, can have miraculous effects from healing the sick to causing more kindness to be spread.

Spend some time reflecting on the past week. Have you witnessed ordinary miracles in your own life? Miracles are happening all around us every day. We just have to recognize them. See if you can find a miracle for yourself right now.
