My Camino de Santiago - Day 8

Today began with a brisk 130m / 427 Ft climb at 7am in total darkness out of Portomarin to the main road. It was followed by varied terrain and woodlands passing by village after village in a state of perpetual decay.I walked alone for hours and hours exploring corners of my mind I had never had the time to go to. Sometimes I just sat under a tree in sacred idleness. I stopped at the town of Lestera- 4K east of Palas del Rei. A total of 21 k/ 14 miles. Only 72k/48 miles from Santiago now 👍

My Camino de Santiago - Day 7

At the sight of my first Galician sunrise and some rain, I see that on the Caminó, as in life, we never walk alone. Many, many peregrinos here. The landscape has changed completely. There are farms, animals and plenty of greenery providing shade and lovely woodland paths for most of the 22 Km/15 mile journey from Sarria to Portomarin. I took my time and walked with an open mind today- letting this journey leave its mark on me. Less than 100km/66 miles to Santiago now 🙏🏻💪🏻

My Camino de Santiago - Day 6

Really starting to feel like a “peregrina” - my feet are hard, my legs are fresh and my mind is free. Walked another 25 km / 17 miles through vineyards and hardly populated medieval towns from Ponferrada to Villafranca del Bierzo- a mountain village with an elevation of 505 meters/ 1658 Ft.

My Camino de Santiago - Day 5

A 30 Km/ 19 mile mountain hike from Foncebadon to Ponferrada starting with a sunrise climb to La Cruz de Hierro at the highest point on the Camino. The rest of the day was spent going downhill in and out of fog clouds. I’m not sure if I was loosing my breath from the hike or from the scenery surrounding me. Like every experience that marks us for a lifetime, I found myself turned inside out, drawn & quartered by end of day. Hoping for some good rest tonight and an easier day tomorrow.

My Camino de Santiago - Day 4

They say the core of man’s spirit comes from new experiences...today was a day of braking MANY comfort zones. Started before sunrise and walked 28 Km/ 18.5 miles including a 280 Meter climb during the last 8 km to Foncebadon- once an abandoned city, now restored back to life by Pilgrims on the Camino.

My Camino de Santiago - Day 3

Another 25 km/ 17 miles today from San Martin del Camino to Astorga-a town known for its Medieval walled Old Town and the Gothic Astorga Cathedral. The scenery getting better as I went. Everything gets easier- it’s like a vitamin for your soul....

My Camino de Santiago - Day 2

Walked 15 miles/22 km today from Leon to San Martin del Camino. It was difficult and I was extremely tired when I arrived. The way I have to walk is clearly marked, thanks to the thoughtful people who marked it before me.
