The Post Pandemic Action Plan

In the past year, we’ve gotten really comfortable in sweats and pajamas…

Most of us don’t recognize ourselves in the mirror after a year of staying indoors and pandemic neglect. We needed to rely largely on screens — TV, Social Media, Netflix, Facetime with family and friends, meetings and classes on Zoom. Most of us rarely ventured out except for the occasional drive to the bank or drug store to save our sanity.

A majority of us didn’t bother with haircuts or much makeup. Just for the record, I did shower and brush my teeth every day. I didn’t bother to buy new clothes because I didn’t need them. I have to say this did benefit my budget.

Now it’s spring. The weather is beautiful most days. I’m vaccinated and starting to feel more liberated. The flowers around me are blooming and I need to bloom too!

You may want to start out with an action plan that starts out with something along the lines of “lose ten pounds” but it may be self-defeating. So why not start out something like this:

Going to the hair salon: This could be a bit scary. No seats in the waiting area. You have to arrive on time, only one customer per operator in the place at a time, masks must be worn. Hand sanitizer is offered at the entrance. But after a while you get used to it and, believe me, you’ll feel like a million bucks. It’s like walking in and dancing out!

Next is the mani-pedi: pick a sunny pink color to go with the season and your mood. Let them remove all the cuticle, the callouses, the neglected hangnails. Let them slather you up with creams and hot towels and leave you with gorgeous hands and baby feet. Try not to let those flip-flops slow you down as you dance out the door!

How about a massage? If all this dancing out doors is making you ache by now, how about a year of sitting in a chair in front of screens? Even sitting in bed in front of phones may have given you back issues. Chances are, you just may walk out with a facial expression to go with your sunny pink nail color.

The dentist: chances are dental hygiene was a bit neglected during this time. Getting your teeth cleaned and maybe whitened is both a health and beauty item.

The Dermatologist: Your face might need a little rejuvenation so how about a dermabrasion? It would certainly produce some pink for your face.

You diet: We are not talking about deprivation here, just a return to healthy eating. Visit the supermarket and do your own grocery shopping for a change. Browse the produce isles and pick out your own fruits and vegetables.

Try cooking simple meals and enjoy them outside on the patio. Cook what you like and savor each bite. Try gardening and going out for walks to get rid of those extra pounds in a relaxing and pleasant manner.

Clothes and shoes: restaurants and theaters are starting to open up and people are venturing out. You might even want to make a reservation for a short vacation. So a new outfit is a must — and not sweats, leggings or pajamas. Spend some money on you — you deserve it.

I can’t say enough about how good it feels to return to real life. Perhaps a new lifestyle is in order? You decide.
